How to make a Spaghetti Bolognese recipe for you and your baby

Everybody loves spaghetti , at least I know I do and so does my children. When you go to the supermarket and check on the baby food section, you will find spaghetti bolognese for 6 months old and above . So if you are one of those mom’s that your baby love’s spaghetti bolognese but you only buy store bought ones, there is nothing  to be ashamed of.

Am just thinking to myself you are unsure or maybe afraid of feeding your baby something that might cause allergy. If it is about allergies, then note that if your baby can handle the store bought foods then he/she will be fine with your home cooking because after all, you will put much thought into it.

What ever the reason is, you will learn in this post how easy it is to make homemade spaghetti bolognese for you and your baby that taste ten times better than store bought ones. To start cooking, we will need;


Ingredients :

1/2 kg Ground beef

2 Medium size onions

2 Medium size carrots

1 Zucchine

1 Cup water

2 Cloves garlic

1 teaspoon basic curry spice

1 teaspoon ground ginger

3 Tablespoons oil (I use sunflower )

300 g Spaghetti

Process :

Put oil in a pot and sauté onions until translucent. Add ground meat, stirring continuously, cook until meat is no longer pink looking ( about 2 minutes ).

Add carrot and zucchini, give it a stir and cook for another minute or two. Add in tomato sauce and water then cover and cook for 40 minutes on low heat.

While the sauce is cooking, prepare spaghetti. If you decide to cook your baby’s spaghetti separately, do not put any salt in the water but if you cook the spaghetti together, then please use very little salt. Too much salt at that age is not good for your baby so bare that mind. Also, you can take your portion of spaghetti out when it is al dente ( meaning soft, yet still has a chew ) and the the baby’s cook until really soft.

Take baby’s portion out after 40 minutes ( the sauce ), for your portion, add in ginger, curry spice, garlic, salt/pepper and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

When the spaghetti is done, drain and save some of the water for later. For baby, using a food processor/ hand blender, puree 1/2 cup spaghetti to 1 cup sauce until desired texture is achieved. Add a bit of spaghetti water if needed for a more lighter consistency.

Serve your plate of Spaghetti bolognese with grated parmesan cheese and if your baby is 8 months and beyond, you can serve his/her plate with a bit of parmesan as well and you both enjoy your lunch/dinner.

NOTE : Am just your average mom sharing my personal experience with you, so make your you consult your paediatrician first before introducing solid foods to your baby.
