In this post am sharing with you my 3 Oatmeal Breakfast Ideas for Babies you must try for 8 months and above. Did you know that Oats are among the healthiest grains on Earth. They are a great source of important Vitamins, Minerals, Fiber and Antioxidants. Half a cup of oat contains magnesium, phosphorus, copper, iron, zinc folate, vitamin B1 and B5 and much more. As if this isn’t good enough, I cook the oatmeal with a small amount of flaxseeds which is also know to be a super food but should be taken in very small amounts. Flaxseeds contain an omega-3-fatty acid that supports heart and brain health and they are packed with protein and essential nutrients.
So if your baby is eating solid foods and you haven’t tried oatmeal yet, or maybe you are looking for other ways to prepare your baby’s oat to add variety, then definitely try this 3 oatmeal breakfast ideas that I know your baby will enjoy.
Before I share the full recipe, Note that the most intact and whole form of oats (old fashion oats) take a long time to cook. For this reason, most people prefer rolled , crushed or steel-cut oats. I use Quick Quaker oats and they are simply cut into slightly smaller pieces so they cook faster. So now that you know the difference, Let’s start with ;
Ingredient for Oatmeal:
- 1 Cup Milk
- 1/3 Cup Quaker Oat
- 1/2 teaspoon Grounded Flaxseeds ( optional)
In a small pot, combine milk and flaxseeds and let it come to a boil. Add oats and cook for 1-3 minutes. Take it off the heat, cover with lid and let it sit for other 5 minute.
For Caramel Banana topping , we will need;
1/2 Banana (ripe)
1/2 -1 teaspoon Butter (personal preference )
1/2 – 1 teaspoon Honey (personal preference )
In a small pan on medium high heat, add in butter, slice up the banana and add to the butter. Let banana cook in butter for 2-3 minutes, flipping each one constantly. Add honey and give it a good stir. Leave on heat for extra 1-2 minutes, turn off the burner and serve with oatmeal. Make sure you let the banana caramel cool before feeding it to your baby.
For Caramel Blueberries topping ;
1/2 Cup Blueberries
1/2 – 1 teaspoon Honey
1/2 – 1 teaspoon Butter
Again add butter to a clean pan on medium high heat, add in blueberries, let it cook in butter until they are soft (this can take 2-3 minutes). Using a fork, press the blueberries down to mash it up a bit. Add in honey, give it a good stir for another 1-2 minutes then serve with oatmeal and make sure it cools down before feeding it to your baby and let him/her enjoy.
For Apple and Yogurt Mix topping ;
1/4 Apple (grated) ( take an apple and cut up in 4 pieces then take 1 piece from the 4 pieces)
2 Tablespoons Natural Yogurt (plain yogurt)
Mix grated apple together with yogurt, stir it in baby’s oatmeal and let your baby enjoy.
